Didn’t realize the air ducts connected so directly – roommates hear shit talk

When you move into a new home it’s always a game of learning to ignore things.

Your first couple of nights inside the house will probably be a bit spooky and disturbing.

It’s difficult to get restful sleep when you’re hearing unusual sounds and creaks all around you. Similarly, your first weekend trying to sleep in will probably be punctuated with the sounds of your neighbor’s doing outdoor chores. More significantly, you’ll probably need to get used to the busy roadways and machinery sounds that frequent your neighborhood. As long as you’re worrying about noise pollution from outside the house, however, you should figure out how thin the walls are inside the house. Or, I suggest that you investigate your central heating and cooling system to see where the air ducts connect. You see, after living in this new house for about 2 weeks with my new roommates, I had no idea that our air vents were basically directly connected to each other. I’m not sure what inappropriate things they heard through my open air vents before I realized this unfortunate HVAC fact. I can tell you that they got an earful through the air ducts the other day when I was bitching about their disgusting kitchen habits. It was a pleasant temperature outside, so we were using natural ventilation instead of operating the heating and cooling system. It was silent in the house without air quality control equipment running, and I was sitting in my room when I started complaining on the phone. About twenty minutes into my rant, I heard a cough distinctly through the air vent. I stuck my head down near the air duct opening and realized that I could see straight into my roomie’s bedroom through their vent. I feel like an idiot for forgetting about the open air vent… but the kitchen has been clean ever since.
